About Scarsdale Recreation Department Soccer Programs In Fall 2008, Edgewood will enroll more than 15 teams, from 2nd to 8th grades, in the Rec League. Games will start on September 13th, 2008 and will run for 9 weeks. All levels are welcome. No tryouts necessary. In addition, parent coaches will run clinics for Kindergarten and 1st grade following the Micro-Soccer program. • Grades K and 1 have five Saturday Micro-Soccer skill training sessions followed by clinics held at Edgewood elementary school for the next 3 or 4 weekends before the end of the season.• 2nd grade: Five Sunday Micro-Soccer skill training sessions, a nine week 5v5 league schedule (no scores kept), and a scheduled practice with the team coach throughout the season. Tentative game times, boys and girls - 12pm, 1pm or 2pm. • 3rd, 4th and 5th grades: Optional Micro-Soccer skill training sessions on five Sundays, a nine week league schedule, and a scheduled practice with the team coach throughout the season. • 6th grade: A nine week league schedule and a scheduled practice with the team coach throughout the season. • 7th and 8th grade: Teams will not be comprised by neighborhood but by Middle School house given the low number of players in certain areas. A nine-week league schedule will be conducted. Depending upon registration, field size will be determined at a later date (i.e., play 9v9, 8v8, 7v7). Players must wear a school-colored T-shirt (except in the case of the 7th and 8th grade teams), shin guards, and soccer cleats. T-shirts can be purchased from the PTA Clothing Committee. All teams, except the 7th and 8th grade teams, are Edgewood-based and games are held against teams from other Scarsdale areas. Teams for 7th and 8th grade will be based on Middle School houses. Coaches and equipment are provided by the Edgewood Athletic Association. Micro-Soccer is conducted by professional instructors and high school players, and parent assistants are welcome. Approximately half the time will be devoted to developing fundamental skills with the other half devoted to small-sided games. From K to 8th grades, there is a mandatory online registration on the Village website at www.scarsdale.com, under Parks & Recreation section; Sports Center; Child League Registration. Please register by Friday June 27th, 2008. The grade Coordinators and coaches for grade 2nd to 8th (see list below) will use the registration information provided by the Village to form teams and contact the players prior to the start of the Rec League or clinics for grade K and 1. A separate registration is necessary for Micro-Soccer. More information and forms for Micro-Soccer registration can be found on the Village website at www.scarsdale.com, under Parks & Recreation section; Program Registration Forms as well as on the Scarsdale Youth Soccer Club website at www.scarsdalesoccer.org/microsoccer. In recent years, the Scarsdale Rec Department has moved fall soccer registration to June. If you wait until the fall to decide whether your child will play soccer or not, it could be too late. It is important to understand which soccer programs are available and what you should be registering your child for as soon as possible.
