Fall 2010 Soccer In Edgewood

SoccerIf you wait until the fall to decide whether your child will play soccer or not, it could be too late.  It is important to understand which soccer programs are available and what you should be registering your child for as soon as possible.

Here is some basic information about the soccer programs in our area. 

About Scarsdale Recreation Department Soccer Programs

In Fall 2010, Edgewood will enroll close to 200 boys and girls, from 3rd to 8th grades, in the Rec League.  Games will start on Saturday, September 25th, 2010 and will run until mid to late November.  All levels are welcome.  No tryouts are necessary.  Players must wear a school-colored T-shirt, shin guards, and soccer cleats.  This year each player will receive a Recreation Soccer T-Shirt of his/her school color (additional T-shirts can be purchased from the PTA Clothing Committee.)  For each team, a parent coach will manage practices and games with soccer balls and equipment provided by the Edgewood Athletic Association. 

KINDERGARTEN, 1ST and 2ND GRADE SOCCER

Saturday or Sunday program - Five session (Seven sessions for 2nd Grade) program with training and scrimmages scheduled to begin Saturday, September 25th.  Parents are welcome to assist - Coaching instruction will be available at no cost!  Each camper will receive a Recreation Soccer T-Shirt.

  • KINDERGARTEN: Will be 30 minutes of skills training followed by a 30 minute game. Teams will be playing 3 v 3. Sundays. Tentative Times: Girls: 1:00pm; Boys: 2:15pm. Location: Scarsdale Middle School - Fee: $60
  • 1st GRADE: Will be 20 minutes of skills training followed by a 40 minute game. Teams will be playing 4 v 4. Saturdays. Tentative Times: Girls: 12:45pm; Boys: 2:00pm. Location: Quaker Ridge Front Field - Fee: $60
  • 2nd GRADE: Will be 30 minutes of skills training followed by a 45 minute game. Teams will be playing 5 v 5. Saturdays. Tentative Times: Girls: 10:00am; Boys: 11:15am. Location: Quaker Ridge Front Field - Fee: $85

 

Edgewood parent coaches will run clinics for K, 1st and 2nd graders prior and/or following the training sessions and will contact directly the families with details.

THIRD, FOURTH, FIFTH & **SIXTH GRADE SOCCER

  • Saturday program - Seven week league with games scheduled to begin Saturday, September 25th through November 13th (no soccer on Columbus day weekend). Coach-run Scrimmages begin September 11th.

Tentative Game Times:

3rd & 4th grade girls - 11am or 12:30pm

3rd & 4th grade boys - 2pm or 3:30pm

5th grade girls - 11:30am or 1pm

5th grade boys - 1pm or 2:30pm

**6th grade boys & girls - 10am

  • Individual team coaches may schedule an additional weekly team practice.
  • Each player will receive a Recreation Soccer T-Shirt.
  • Fee: $10.

 

 

** Depending on the number of registered participants, 6th Grade soccer may be integrated into the 7th/8th Grade pickup soccer program, as opposed to following a league format.

SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE SOCCER

  • Seven week "Pick Up Soccer Program" offered on Saturday mornings.
  • Tentative Time: 9am.
  • Each player will receive a Recreation Soccer T-Shirt.
  • Fee: $10.

 

 

 

REGISTRATION

From K to 8th grades, registering for Recreation Soccer Program is a Two-Step Process. You need to fill out the appropriate Registration Form and Online Registration.   Program Registration Forms are available on the Village website at www.scarsdale.com, under Parks & Recreation; Online Registration can be completed by going at www.scarsdale.com, under Parks & Recreation; Sports Center; Child League Registration.  If you have more than one child participating, please register both online individually.  Your information will be provided to the grade coordinators and parent coaches so they can create teams and will also be used to send you emails with additional information during the soccer season.

K to 2nd grade - Please register by Wednesday September 15th, 2010. 

3rd to 8th grade - Please register by Wednesday September 1st, 2010. 

REMINDER: Families must pay their Edgewood Athletic Association dues for their children to participate in the Rec Soccer Program.
